On Sunday afternoon, October 4 a motorcyclist was killed in a collision.
According to authorities the accident happened at approximately 2.40 p.m. at Jefferson Avenue Southwest in front of an A1 Service Station. Kaylan Kamonta Perry, aged 21 from Fairfield was riding his motorcycle when a Mercury sedan struck it causing him to crash in to a power pole outside Paul Piece Body Shop.
Authorities stated that having reviewed video footage and spoken to witnesses it appears that both parties were racing prior to the crash. There is also a possibility they had been fighting before the accident and likely both drivers knew each other. The two males in the truck fled the scene of the accident however, one individual was later taken into custody.
Witnesses spoke of how it looked like the motorcyclist was trying to jump of the motorcycle when he hit the pole and the impact caused the motorcycle to travel almost half a block. Police are continuing their investigations and frustrated relatives have called for further action following previous assaults in Perry, which they believe are linked to this incident.
