On Saturday, December 12, a three vehicle crash resulted in the death of one person and two more injured.
According to the Alabama State Troopers the accident happened at 1.40 a.m. on Interstate 20 one mile east of Pell City. A 2010 Mercury Mariner being driven by 29 year old Terrance Leonard Hill of Pell City collided with a 2014 Freightliner being driven by 49 year old Sonny Jerome Sweeney, of Bradenton, Florida. Hill was not wearing a seat belt and he was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Sweeney was uninjured.
Subsequently, the Mercury Mariner was struck by a 2015 Mack tractor trailer driven by 63 year old Allen Nichols, of Gainesville, Ga. Nichols was injured along with his passenger, 31 year old Dorron Ross Howard, of Birmingham. They were both taken by ambulance to UAB Hospital.
The crash is still under investigation.
